Glasgow in Top 5 for Landlords

19 August 2008

Glasgow is one of the top five UK cities for buy-to-let landlords.  New research conducted by independent research agency BDRC on behalf of a syndicate of buy-to-let mortgage lenders and brokers showed that four per cent of landlords own property in Glasgow, making it one of the most popular cities in the country for buy-to-let investors.

London is by far the most popular location with 15 per cent of landlords owning property in the capital.  But the next four most popular cities are all pretty much level pegging.  Manchester takes second place with five per cent of landlords owning properties in the area followed by Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham with four per cent of landlords owning properties in each of these cities.

Lynsey Sweales Director at The Money Centre said that the top factors influencing the choice of properties were city centre locations with good rail and road links.  She added that landlords will also favour locations with universities (Glasgow has three) and large employers.
